Ultraflex Rotech & Accura Steering Systems Guide

Speed, hull, horsepower, engine type displacement and size are major factors in boat performance and handling characteristics. The selection guide should be used as a general reference only.

One of the major factors in selecting a steering system is proper cable length. Due to specific routing in each boat, these approximate lengths will vary. Boating Solutions does recommend final selection should be made with the assistance of a qualified installation mechanic.

Ultraflex mechanical steering systems should not be used on boats equipped with engines that exceed the maximum horsepower rating of the boat.

Why the Ultraflex System vs other name brands?

The Ultraflex Rotech and Accura Steering systems use a Planetary Gear Helm with six contact point vs. one contact point by other named brands.

Benefits of a planetary design:
  • Increased longevity
  • Increased efficiency
  • Less feedback than conventional helms

Both the Teleflex® and Morse® helms rely on one contact point vs. six by the Ultraflex® steering helm.

How to measure for new steering cable installation
Add A + B + C and subtract 4" (100mm) for each 90 degree bend in the cable. For installation through the engine tilt tube, add 12" (305 mm) to the measure calculated above.

Figure 2.

Figure 3.

Example: A (20") + B (100") + C (26") = 146" - 8" for two 90 degree bends = 138" + 12" for a thru-tube installation = 150" (12' 5") rounded off to 13 ft. Example: A (20") + B (100") +C (26") = 146" - 8" for two 90 degree bends = 138" (11' 5") rounded off to 12 ft.
