ZTF Tiller MC1 -  Mercury Conversion ZTF Tiller

Tiller steered boats are labor intensive to steer due to the constant load on the tiller from propeller torque, and the fact that the operator is positioned (while driving the boat) in such a way that maintaining control requires physical effort not customary in everyday  activities.

The higher torque of today’s four stroke engines has naturally increased the load on the tiller as compared to two strokes. Though engine horsepower on tiller steered boats may not have changed,  the difficulty in controlling these boats has increased.

Having a system that locks out the torque while the boat is not actively being steered is a desirable feature that has been implemented on larger engines by engine manufacturers.

The solution is the ZERO TORQUE Tiller System which consists of a hydraulic cylinder with a control valve that opens and closes following to the operation made on the handle. The valve closes when  the steering effort by the driver is stopped; as a consequence the cylinder locks the steering position.

This item is just the kit that includes Cylinder, Valves, Hoses and Bracket to convert a Big Tiller to a Zero Torque Steering. Tiller Handle must be sent into for retrofit. Please contact sales for more information. This item ships back to you for free. Choose free shipping option when ordering. We also offer the complete Tiller Assembly ready to go. See ZTF Tiller Assembly Complete. Lead Times are 3-6 weeks with shipping.

Note: The tiller arm will increase in length up to three inches from original size due to the bracket that gets installed durring the retrofit. This can cause the current T/S cables to be short when reinstalling Tiller. Customers will be required to replace the original T/S cable's with longer ones, which can be purchased from your local Mercury Marine Dealership. These parts are not included in the retrofit. See chart below for reference only. Need more details. You can Download the Mercury Big Tiller® manual here in PDF.

ZTF Tiller MC1 Conversion Kir

Review by mike on 3/1/2020

Purchased the tiller conversion kit for a 2019 Mercury 75hp Four stroke big tiller. The removal of the Big Tiller handle is not difficult if you have average skills with using tools. Make sure you check the transom measurement for clearance to your back deck as indicated the arm itself will be three inches longer thus changing the length of the angle that the tiller arm can come into contact with the back deck if you have one. Take photos with your phone as you go in case you forget locations of removed parts. Remember it can be three weeks before you receive your conversion kit. Make sure you pay shipping insurance just in case. I had UPS pack the unit. You will need metric sockets and wrenches and a torque wrench. If you print out a copy of the photo of the unit on the website it helps when putting the conversion kit back on the motor. I did not need to purchase a longer gearshift and throttle cables. I would purchase this conversion kit again in a heartbeat. Good luck

I have not had a chance to try out my new Zero Torque Force Tiller yet, but I would like to give a big thumbs up on Boating Solutions and Uflex for their awesome service. Ordering and shipping instructions for my Big Tiller (retrofit kit) were easy; turn around time was amazingly fast! Excellent. I will follow up later with a product performance report.
